TikToker Goes Viral for Sharing What It’s Like to Be Married to a Man In Prison

TikToker Jade aka @jadalous2.0 has almost 200k followers and almost 10 million likes on her posts. It's not the typical content you'd find on TikTok, however. Usually you find Gen-Zers doing some sort of popular dance move; or some goofy trend everyone is playing around with; or even a bunch of makeup artists and hairstylists showing off their skills; and, of course, all the “story times” where people share personal stories from their lives. Jade is also sharing personal stories, but not as a “story time” trend. She shares her day-to-day life as a wife who has a husband in jail.

The couple met through a prison penpal program and have now been married for 4 years. Jade's post normalizes this sort of relationship and is helping to build down that stereotype of prison wives. Movies show them almost as victims, simply because their husbands are in jail. Jade assures her viewers that she is a smart woman and didn't go about this relationship lightly. She met the man while he was already in jail, he is schedule to be released in 2024 and she's already married and in love with this man so is looking forward to a free life with him. 

Her viewers are about half and half with their thoughts on her relationship. Though Jade's videos show a beautifully blossoming relationship, many viewers leave comments putting her down for marrying an inmate. However, there are also lots of viewers commenting that they too met their loved ones while they were in prison and they are still happily together.

She also shares the thing her husband in prison sends her. So viewers get to see that he is becoming an artist while in prison. He has become very crafty in bead work and sends her intricate works of art. Though it is not easy being married to a man in prison, and Jade also shares what it's like from that point of view, she also shares how happy she's become since being with him. Every relationship is different and now Jade is creating a safe space for “prison wives.”
