And he is successfully getting that message across! Portuguese artist, Artur Bordalo, has created an art series, 'Big Trash Animals,' that has been so successful in achieving his goals in drawing attention to waste production locally that he's now going global!
From the USA to Estonia and Tahiti. Bordalo scavenges his materials from waste that was dumped in the area, which, sadly, has proven to be less than difficult. And from that trash, he creates his magnificent sculptures.
In Bordalo's own words, "I belong to a generation that is extremely consumerist, materialist and greedy. With the production of things at its highest, the production of "waste" and unused objects is also at its highest. "Waste" is quoted because of its abstract definition: "one man's trash is another man's treasure". I create, recreate, assemble and develop ideas with end-of-life material and try to relate it to sustainability, ecological and social awareness."
