Yes, my daughter has been studying on her own (practising writing and memorizing the English/Japanese dictionary) for ages, but she just started taking a formal Japanese course this fall. She would *love* to do what you are doing someday and study in Japan! I told her to read your blog to find out about some of your adventures there. Are you majoring in Asian Studies?
