Roxanne Myers attempted a weekend-long gaming marathon as part of her senior thesis on video game addiction, and fell asleep at her desk partway through.
Because she fell asleep in a cross-legged position and has a pre-existing condition that makes her prone to blood clots, she lost circulation to the lower part of her body and had to have her feet partially amputated.
Now she says she "lost her feet to video games."
"People just get into to these games so much that it just consumes their lives, and they don't have any concern for their health," she told thoseguys.tv.
While what happened to Myers is certainly tragic, it might be more accurate to say that she lost her feet to a pre-existing medical condition. The same disaster could have occurred if she'd been studying or watching TV for two and a half days straight.
By the way, Myers didn't specify which addictive video game she was playing all weekend, so don't immediately blame WoW.
