In April 2011, 8-week-old male cheetah cub Kasi and 16-week-old female yellow Labrador puppy Mtani publicly debuted their burgeoning friendship at Busch Gardens Tampa. One year later, the pair live together at the park full time, and the besties travel together to schools, events, and TV studios, to help teach the public about the plight of cheetahs in the wild.
"Male cheetahs are social and often live together in coalitions," says Tim Smith, a zoo manager who works with Kasi and Mtani daily. "This social bond will be a very similar relationship, and they will be together for life."
