Meet Piper, The Dog That Protects Planes From Bird Strikes
Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, cooler than a cucumber in a bowl of hot sauce, it's Piper the Aviation Bird Dog, ready for duty. Via: The great big story
K-9 Piper is a specially trained, hardworking border collie with one determined mission
This special dog is in charge of clearing birds such as geese, owls, crows and gulls from the runways of Cherry Capital Airport in order to prevent aircraft bird strikes.
Piper’s human partner and handler Brian Edwards shared the importance of Piper’s job and just how much they both love it.
"Birds can cause a lot of different types of damage. Most bird strikes are with smaller types of birds that might just cause dents but if the bird is large enough and is ingested into an engine that can cause a serious failure….I don't think Piper sees it as work. I think it's all play to him"
Birds can pose a huge threat to flight safety but when they see Piper on his way, geese, ducks and gulls flee the runways.
It’s an important job, but not one without its share of fun as you can see in the following video
