In a day for the record books, we had a world record broken, an historic performance in the women's 1500, and a man with no legs anchor his team in the 4x400 relay.
In Beijing, Team USA's women failed to make the 400m relay finals after flubbing a baton handoff. This time around they annihilated the world record.
But the fun didn't stop there. Middle-distance runner Shannon Rowbury's sixth place finish in the 1500m was the highest finish in the event in American history, improving on her seventh place effort in Beijing.
The day's track and field fun concluded with double-amputee Oscar Pistorius running the anchor leg for South Africa in the 4x400 meter relay, while French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie cleared an Olympic record height for the gold.
