Story Of A Man Sentenced To Life Without Parole For Stealing $9

The justice system has failed many, many unfortunate souls. Including Willie Simmons, who was sentenced to life without parole, in 1982, for stealing $9.

Investigative journalist Beth Shelburne has brought Simmons' story into the spotlight when sharing this man's story via Twitter. Not only was Willie Simmons sentenced to life for something so ridiculous, but he has also been and still is currently imprisoned in one of the most notorious prisons in Alabama.

Alabama Legislature passed something called the "Habitual Felony Offender Act" to crack down on repeat criminals, back in 1977. And journalist Shelburne is here to shed some light on just some of the injustice created by this "Habitual Felony Offender Act."
