Airbnb hosts know the risks they're taking when they make their home available for strangers to rent. Things can be stolen, expensive things broken, etc., but what TikToker Jazmin Jones is having to go through is beyond even the worst nightmare.
Jones had to be away from her apartment for several months. This wasn't a forever thing and she didn't want to lose her apartment, especially during the current housing crisis. So instead, she decided to put it up on Airbnb so she can keep the lease, but also have a way to afford the rent while she's away. She cleared it with the landlord and it was all set—a very high-rated Airbnb guest who was a 36-year-old professor at NYU was to rent it the entire time she was away. An ideal set up for any Airbnb host!
However, what she came home to was like walking into a crime scene.
When she came home she walked into an apartment that looked chaotic. There was blood smeared on the walls, feces in the sink along with moldy and dirty dishes. All of the things she left there were destroyed and sprawled all over the place. When she realized the apartment had become infested with mice and roaches, she went to leave and it turned out the front door was broken and she was now stuck inside the disturbing scene. Luckily, her friend came to the rescue and escorted her out through the fire escape and a place to stay while she works this out.
Jones has been using TikTok as a way to document everything she's having to go through after this Airbnb guest. She makes sure to keep this man's identity unknown, but does say that whatever happened while he was living in her place, he ended up losing his job as a professor because of it. She still has no idea exactly what happened but has contacted the authorities and is treating it like a true crime scene. To put the cherry on top of it all, Airbnb has not done one thing to help yet and—though the app gives hosts insurance–they have not paid for anything as of yet.
Viewers have their own hypothesis of what actually went down. Of course, there are a few who think this is a literal crime scene and some true crime movie scenario occurred. Most, however, believe all signs point to some sort of addict relapse situation. Jones is dealing with the unfortunate situation as respectfully as she can and TikTokers are trying to help her get the attention of Airbnb.
