It's happening. Again. Grab your wands, your emotionally repressed trauma, and your copy of The Philosopher's Stone that's been duct-taped since 2001, because HBO's Harry Potter reboot has officially started filming - and we just got our first glimpse of our new Chosen One.
Say hello to Dominic McLaughlin, our brand-new Harry Potter, round glasses and Gryffindor tie and all. He's joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione and Alastair Stout as Ron (although, no set photos of the yet). The trio was picked from over 30,000 hopefuls - probably including at least 10 kids whose moms swear they are Harry.
Filming kicked off at Leavesden Studios, aka the wizarding world's real-life backlot, and HBO's swinging for the fences with a dream team that includes "Succession" director Mark Mylod and showrunner Francesca Gardiner. Each season will adapt one book, so yes - seven seasons are coming. And if they follow tradition, it'll take roughly 47 years to finish.
But the real magic? The cast list. John Lithgow is Dumbledore (!!!), Janet McTeer is McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu is Snape, and Nick Frost - yes, of Shaun of the Dead fame - is Hagrid. Honestly? That alone is worth a Butterbeer toast.
We also have, From left to right: Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
The series is set to premiere in 2027 on HBO and Max, giving you just enough time to reread the books, rewatch the films, fight about house sorting again, and emotionally prepare for the internet war over "Who wore the scar better."
Let's just hope this time, they give Peeves his due.
