My grandmother had an electric organ. She played the piano and for some reason decided to learn the organ as well. She could play it but not nearly as well as the piano. Being a kid, I wanted to play the organ every time I was over there. Sometimes l'd get to bang on the keys but it never lasted that long because l'm sure it was annoying.

Text - It was always "broken" during Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and any other time the entire family was over for a holiday or party. That wouldn't stop me from flipping the power switch to find out Well, a couple times it wasn't broken but I was quickly told to turn it off because it was very loud throughout the whole house. (Spoiler: they just forgot to “break" the organ). This went on for years, sometimes it would be working, sometimes it was broken.

Text - At some point, I figured out that “broken" just meant it was unplugged. One day, I plugged it in and started to play. My grandmother comes in and I proudly tell her that it wasn't broken, someone just unplugged it. She just laughs and goes back in the kitchen. This goes on for awhile until Christmas when I check to see if it's plugged in...it is...so I flip the power switch. Nothing. I'm told it really is broken this time... Info: My grandfather was an electrician...

Text - I don't remember if I ever got to play the organ before I moved away in High School...One year when we came back for Christmas...I might have been in college, I was turning on the back lights...The organ was near the back door and there was a bank of 5 or 6 light switches right next to the door. I hit the wrong one and THE ORGAN TURNED ON! It was so old and had speakers in it that it sounded like someone dropped a microphone when it turned on. Everyone in the room jumped and my grandmothe

Text - I started laughing and said "I knew it was never broken." My Grandfather told me that after I figured out it was unplugged, he rewired the outlet and added another switch so the organ outlet was controlled by a switch. Here is were the petty “revenge" comes in.. Years later, I'm now mid 30s, married, with an 18 month old who we took up to see everyone this past Christmas...Everyone is over the house on Xmas eve....

Text - My daughter climbs on everything and the organ and the bench are still there. So she climbs up and starts banging on the keys. My grandmother goes over and sweetly says “I'm sorry (usedaschwartz's daughter) but it's broken"... hear this and immediately smile...I think "fuck that, it's not broken." Maybe 20 minutes later my daughter is back on the organ bench so, I decide it's time for a little payback...

Text - I check to see if it's plugged in and flip the switch on the wall. She's already banging on the keys so l turn the volume halfway up and hit the power button... The organ starts blaring and Everyone in the room jumps. My daughter was so shocked she almost fell off the bench. She starts hitting the keys again, I start laughing and so do my dad, my grandfather and all my uncles. I turn the volume down and proudly exclaim: "This is for all the times you told me it was broken!" We let her pla
