Chickens are notoriously not the brightest animals. Everyone's heard that they tend to drown in the rain for simply staring at the sky with their mouth open. Is that just a myth? Possibly, but it's done its job already and now chickens are known as the dumb farm animal. Which is unfortunately, because they're an important part of our ecosystem!
TikToker WVGoatMom recently posted a video that gave proof that chickens, well… aren't the brightest—that being said, this chicken definitely has a strong nurturing instinct, which is still impressive.
The TikToker started the account to share the lovely moments her and her family share on their goat farm. Recently, she shared a video her husband sent her that instantly went viral. Her husband found one of their hens brooding in a strange place, when he went to check on her and the eggs she was apparently sitting on, he found that she was not sitting on eggs at all. In fact, she was sitting on several lightbulbs… It's almost sad seeing how badly this mama want's eggs to hatch, but it's also hilarious that she thinks these man-made products are going to hatch.
But don't you worry! The farmers said they found some real eggs that needed a mama to help them hatch and gave them to her, which she took happily and is currently caring for.
“I told you, those aren't gonna hatch!”
Though it's kinda sad that this brooding hen wasn't able to produce her own eggs to raise, what did hatch out of this circumstance are some grade-A chicken/lightbulb puns. Viewers of the video are rooting for her and her bright eggs. One person said, “she was trying to hatch an idea or two.” Another said, “Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in? ” One person even hilariously commented, “There went a bright idea.” Another viewer said, “She was working with the old GE slogan, 'We bring good things to life.'” This person said, “I’m gonna trust the chicken on what eggs are sir.”
Other farmers are commenting with their experience with their silkies, which is the type of chicken in the video. One farmer said, “silkies are the special Ed of chickens.” Then many listed the things their silkies have tried to brood on: a rock, a measuring cup, and even plastic easter eggs. We can't wait to see the bright chicks this mama hen will have.
