Before you get all excited, let me be an ogre for a moment and remind you that this movie is still a long way off. Universal Pictures finally dropped the first teaser trailer for Shrek 5, but don't expect to see it in theaters until December 2026. Yep, we still have to wait almost two years before we return to the swamp. But hey, at least we finally have something to ogle while we wait!
The teaser is only 26 seconds long, and about half of that is just the cast list flashing across the screen, but it does give us a few juicy details. First off, Shrek 5 is fully embracing the meme culture that has kept the franchise alive and thriving online. The trailer leans heavily into Shrek's god-tier internet status, teasing us with clips that play up the ridiculousness of it all. At one point, Shrek and his daughter (yes, his daughter) even scroll through Magic Mirror looking at Shrek memes, so we're clearly in for a self-aware ride.
And speaking of new characters—enter Zendaya! The big casting reveal confirms that she'll be voicing Felicia, Shrek and Fiona's teenage daughter. We get a quick glimpse of her in the teaser, complete with red hair, bangs, and the ultimate teenage expression of embarrassment as she deals with her dad's antics. With the return of Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), and Cameron Diaz (Fiona), plus Zendaya joining the cast, this movie is shaping up to be something special.
The animation also looks noticeably different—more detailed, smoother, and much more in line with modern CGI films. Not surprising, considering Shrek Forever After came out 15 years ago (feeling old yet?).
That's all we got for now, but it's safe to say Shrek 5 is going to be a wild ride when it finally drops. In the meantime, check out the teaser below and let me know—are you hyped for this return to Far Far Away, or are you still recovering from Shrek the Third?
