Marvel just dropped the trailer for Wonder Man (Watch below), and like everyone else... I was confused. This wasn't your typical superhero sizzle reel - it felt like a parody of a reboot inside another reboot, wrapped in ironic voiceovers and meta-winks. At one point I genuinely thought I was watching an in-universe sketch from She-Hulk. But no - this is actually happening.
So I did some digging and here is everything you need to know - Wonder Man is an upcoming Disney+ miniseries dropping in January 2026, and it's officially part of the MCU's Phase Six lineup - which means yes, it's canon, and yes, it will probably connect to a dozen other shows and movies whether we're ready or not.
The series stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen, Aquaman and now… Wonder Man. Shocking) as Simon Williams, a washed-up stuntman and reluctant actor who also just happens to have superpowers. The twist? He's auditioning for the lead role in a reboot of a fictional Wonder Man show - which is based on him. So yes, it's a superhero show… about a superhero… trying to get cast as himself… in a superhero show. Think Birdman meets WandaVision with a sprinkle of She-Hulk's self-aware weirdness.
In the comics, Simon Williams starts out as the heir to a weapons manufacturing company that gets crushed by Stark Industries. He's recruited by Baron Zemo, given "ionic energy" powers, and sent to infiltrate the Avengers - but ends up switching sides and becoming one of the good guys. How much of that origin story will make it into the series? TBD. But judging by the trailer, we're diving deep into Hollywood satire, superhero burnout, and identity crises - with action sequences, of course.
And somehow, it all weirdly works.
