Find a good pet supplies website
To begin with, buying pet supplies online is always going to be cheaper than buying them in IRL. That's just how things work these days. There are two ways to find good pet supplies online: either shop on Amazon, where many sellers compete with each other and therefore lower their prices, or on a website dedicated to pets like PetSmart, PetCo or Chewy.
Amazon has just about everything on there, and that goes for pet supplies too. If you're after food, treats, beds, cages, bowls, health treatments, accessories or anything else you might need for your pet - it will be on Amazon. Amazon Prime customers get free 1-2 day shipping on some items (it's worth it - sign up here), and we love that we can read hundreds of real reviews on items to get an idea of how good it actually is.
PetSmart, PetCo and Chewy are all websites dedicated to pets and cater to 'normal' pets (dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles, small animals and horses). Each website has its own section of sale or discounted items, and sometimes you can make a real saving there so watch that space. The websites offer free delivery on orders over $49 and you'll end up saving money (sometimes up to 15%) if you purchase recurring orders with the same items. But more about that later.

Buy in bulk
The general rule with pet food is the larger the quantity, the cheaper it will be. But before you go online and buy two years' worth of food for your pet, remember that food (even dried food or pellets) is a perishable item and you don't want to a) waste food and money, or b) accidentally feed your pet expired food.
The best way to go about this is take note of how much your pet eats each week or month. Then you'll be able to calculate how long you can keep the unopened bags of food, and how long you can store the bags at your house before they expire (the expiry time varies in different foods). Although this takes a bit of calculation, it will be worth it!
One more thing to note is that you must have a suitable place to store your pet's food that is in a cool, dry place. If you don't have somewhere out of direct sunlight to store the food, heat and moisture will corrupt the food.

Get repeated orders
Chances are that once you've found a food, shampoo or treat that your pet likes, you won't be changing it every week because that'll confuse everyone. If you'll be ordering the same pet supplies every few weeks or months, sign up to an automatic delivery program. You can choose the quantity and how often the item is delivered to you (calculate how much you'll need using the step above). This not only saves your time, it's also a great way to save money. Many websites offer discounts for automatic delivery programs, so make sure to look into how much you can save (while also buying in bulk).

Shop the sales, deals and discounts
Although it might not be as eye-catching as a rack full of items with yellow discount stickers on them next to the cash register, pet supply websites have sales, discounts and deals too! Sign up to get notifications when there's a sale on so you don't miss it. The pet supply websites mentioned all have sales sections where you can check out all the bargains, so be sure to look out for anything that might interest you. Happy money saving.
