Secluded Beaches Around the World: Secret Beach, Hawaii

  Hawaii is synonymous with beaches, but it's hard to find a secluded beach that's not packed with tourists and noisy families. But that doesn't mean hidden beaches can't be found - you just have to know where to look. Kauapea Beach, also known as Secret Beach, is a secluded beach on the north short of the Kauai island of Kalihiwai, Hawaii. Secret Beach is large by Hawaiian standards, and it's dotted with black volcanic rocks with a rugged cliff in the distance. There are lots of reasons to make the journey to Kauapea Beach.

  As expected, Secret Beach isn't exactly easy to find. The beach is located half a mile northwest of Kilauea and it situated between the Kilauea Lighthouse and Kalihiwai Valley. To get to the beach, take the Kuhio Highway past Kilauea and turn right onto Kalihiwai Road. Follow the road about 50 yards then turn right onto an unmarked dirt road. Follow the road to the end and park your car there. From here, there is a short but steep trail leading straight to the beach, which should take around 10 minutes.

  Once you're there, you can explore the lagoons (which depend on the tide), do some sunbathing on the far east side of the beach (nude if you want), swim (of course) or explore the area. Halfway down the beach to the east (right) is a small waterfall, which usually has a trickle of water in dry weather. Here you can cool off in some fresh water. Note that the current is sometimes quite strong here, so make sure to only swim in the water if you know the water is calm. Take some drinking water with you, and enjoy the beach's serenity and seclusion!
