It's stories like this that serve as a solid reminder in the importance of knowing your rights as a tenant. There are an unfortunate amount of landlords out there that either have no idea what they're doing when it comes to playing by the rules of the law, or they're just shady and trying to pull a fast one on an unsuspecting tenant.
