There is a spectrum of pettiness that we are all on, but some people go so above and beyond. Some special petty divas allow the pettiness they had in life to come through beyond the grave. Often this is communicated in the form of wills or inheritances. Who could forget a certain news anchor whose mother only left him $1 in her will? One might think there isn't an act of post-mortem pettiness greater than that, but they would be gravely mistaken.
When a Tiktoker bought an old Coach bag at Goodwill, she decided to clean the dirty interior. Little did she know, there was $300 hidden inside, along with a note from a woman named Martha.
People were highly amused by the content of this letter, praising Martha for her attitude towards life.
Allegedly, another woman who wished to remain anonymous also found a note from Martha within a box of used glassware. She brought the box to the TikToker, who read the story to her audience. According to this note, Martha's husband had an affair with his deceased brother's wife. Martha and her husband raised the baby as their own.
Yikes. Let's hope Martha's kids don't see THAT video.
These are the kinds of tall tales that are known to generate buzz on TikTok. It's easy to say that anyone could've written up these notes and made phony videos to generate fanfare online. That is not outside of the realm of possibility. Whether you think Martha is hilarious, out of line, or aspirational, this video series is undeniably compelling, and no level of fact-checking can take that away. TikTok will never be an app known for being a beacon of journalistic integrity, and that is okay.
RIP Martha. If you're out there, I hope you know what a legend you are.
