Tumblr Thread: Cockatoo Rocking Out To Metal Music

Some animals like music, that's something that we've noticed. Cats falling asleep when music is playing, doggos head-bopping to music, but a cockatoo? We have yet to see something like that. And this cockatoo specifically might be the most punk rock, coolest cockatoo ever. He's has a haircut cooler than yours, he's more intimidating than any of us by far, and his sense of rhythm is superior to all of us. 

Now, there's speculation about whether this is real or if the music was added after, but considering the fact that cockatoos are knows for their drumming skills in the wild, performing elaborate drumming patterns when trying to attract females, odds are that this is very real. And this birb is amazing.

    You are 100% lying to yourself if you think this isn't the most metal, coolest bird you've ever seen. Nothing beats this. This is amazing. We are intimidated and amazed at the same time. Also, this song is definitely going to be stuck in our heads all day today, and we're not even mad.

Being able to anticipate musical rhythm is a form of intelligence very few species have, and this is the most remarkable example of it l've ever seen in a bird.     It being able to recognize that it's coming and starting to stomp at the exact right time truly is impressive. God knows we miss the cue basically every single time a song starts like that. You know this bird loves this song too, the way it turns around and looks at you like: "this is my jam, and you know it yo."

    Font - villainous-queer Follow So fun thing I learned on a David Attenborough docu: parrots have about the level of understanding of what music is as a toddler. So they don't quite 'understand' it in the way adults and humpbacks do (notice he's not consistently on beat, exactly, but he does try), but nor do they only see noise as a way of advertising fitness or territory or warning, as other birds and animals do. It's really fascinating!
