Having unflappable self-esteem can really help you out when you reach a tough situation in your professional or personal life. Redditor u/SlickHeadSinger posted r/ProRevenge to share this story of a bricklayer named Jerry that shows exactly that. Jerry found a real jerk of a boss early in his bricklaying career, a jerk who was simply unpleasant to work with and brought his equally unpleasant son along for the ride. Unsurprisingly, as Jerry grew more skilled, general contractors they worked with grew interested in working with Jerry outright and helped Jerry start his own business — all so nobody would have to deal with the jerks of the industry anymore. When Jerry quit, the jerk boss told him he would regret it; a year later he was begging Jerry to return. Two years later? The jerk was apparently out of business entirely by then.
Jerrysounds like a real gem of a human being. There's something plain old admirable about anyone who can maintain their self-esteem in spite of difficult, if not outright miserable external circumstances.
For another example of someone who stuck to their guns, check out the guy who refused to cook a fancy dinner in a bizarre fashion just to please one potential dinner guest.
