Font - Emily Porter, M.D. @dremilyportermd ... I just got a double cheeseburger, small fries and large Diet Coke at McDonald's for $3.25 so please stop fat shaming or blaming the single mom of 2 working for $7.25/hour for her "unhealthy choices" or high blood pressure when non-organic raspberries are $8.96/pound at Walmart. 10:27 PM · Apr 14, 2021 · Twitter for iPhone 4,147 Retweets 277 Quote Tweets 26.2K Likes

Dr. Emily Porter argued that people need to stop judging people who do not have the budget, or time to purchase healthy food. She compares the prices of her local produce and a full Mcdonald's meal. The only issue is the price differences are not the same all over the country, much less in other countries around the world.

After receiving some backlash Dr. Porter decides to add some credibility to her statement and includes she has personally been in the position where all she could afford was Mcdonald's. She even attaches some images of the meal options to further prove her point.

Font - Emily Porter, M.D. @dremilyportermd ... Replying to @dremilyportermd I'll also say I worked in fast food. When you see someone destitute finally get enough spare change together to buy a hamburger and then they ask for a big cup of hot water and grab a huge handful of ketchup, you learn quickly what is happening. Heartbreaking, even as a teenager. 5:26 AM · Apr 15, 2021 · Twitter for iPhone

Font - Emily Porter, M.D. @dremilyportermd Replying to @dremily.portermd Just outside Austin is a food desert. The closest supermarket is 15 mi away. Not everyone has a car. 95% of kids in the school district get free lunch. The people buy groceries at Dollar General. They accept SNAP and it's the only option. What fresh/healthy food comes from there? 5:27 AM · Apr 15, 2021 · Twitter for iPhone

Sunglasses - Amy Coody @coodyamyk ... Replying to @dremilyportermd and @Nursenenni Food insecure folks will choose shelf stable carb filled foods that fill their bellies and last a whole month until the next check arrives. Food secure folks just don't get that at all and it's insulting. They can't afford fresh foods. 2:03 AM · Apr 15, 2021 · Twitter Web App 6 Retweets 53 Likes

Font - MizFlagPin @MizFlagPin Replying to @dremilyportermd No ma'am. That crap kills. A pot of beans with a skillet of cornbread is a less expensive and more healthier meal and last longer than mystery meat and never mold fries and battery cleaner soda ordered off the $1 menu at Mickey Dees. Do better, Doc. 3:22 AM · Apr 15, 2021 · Twitter Web App

Font - Gemz * @Gemini_Vibesx ... Replying to @dremilyportermd Our work put together emergency food boxes for families in poverty during covid. Font - mbsd29 ... @mbsd29 Replying to @dremilyportermd Diet Coke, Doctor? Carbonated chemicals in a can. Have a small regular Coke if the meal's an infrequent splurge. BTW, the giant rotisserie chickens at Sam's or Costco cost $4.99. My husband and I get three meals from one of them- dinner, lunch, & homemade soup from what's left. 11:35 PM · Apr 14, 2021 · Twitter Web App

Font - Julie Martin @jools6691 Replying to @BabeTruth2 and @dremilyportermd Also why compare a McDonald's meal to fresh raspberries, which aren't a substantial dinner, instead of looking at preparing a healthy family dinner for $6-8 2:49 AM · Apr 15, 2021 · Twitter for iPhone 3 Likes

Font - Yvonne Choong @Choonghagen Replying to @dremilyportermd Preparing healthy food requires money, transportation, time, mental energy, childcare support, cooking knowledge and skills, access to a functioning kitchen and tools, and kids who are willing to eat whatever you make. Not impossible for a family, but often not easy. 11:04 PM · Apr 14, 2021 · Twitter Web App 48 Retweets 799 Likes

Font - Hank Ersazt @therealguiga Replying to @dremilyportermd I can't agree with that: all studies show that cooking your own meals costs much less than fast food for working class families and is much healthier. You should shame them for their culinary laziness. II 10:32 PM · Apr 14, 2021 · Twitter for iPhone 1 Retweet 2 Quote Tweets 48 Likes
