As any thrill seeker will tell you, a fairground ride isn't worth going on unless there's an element of (simulated) danger involved. Unfortunately, for the riders of the "Magic Carpet" at the Cherry Festival in Michigan last week, that danger turned out to be very real.
A terrifying video surfaced online of the ride coming loose from its base, while the pendulum carrying multiple riders was still swinging at full speed. Thankfully, its precarious rocking was noticed by a number of attentive bystanders who ran to steady the ride and despite the close call, nobody was injured.
It has since been confirmed by the festival that the ride is no longer in operation and has been returned to the manufacturer to determine what caused the fault. Bag holders and sitter outers of the world, now is your time to find your aversion to all things fast and flashy validated.
