As animal lovers, we know that people will go to incredible lengths to help an animal in need, whether it's by adopting stray sick animals who can't take care of themselves or rescuing sick 'ugly' fish who've been abused by their previous owners. And when it comes to animal preservation, people will do the same, helping animals procreate, rescuing and releasing animals back into the wild, or - as in this case - painting reindeer antlers with reflective paint to attempt to stop them from being hit by cars.
It is really unfortunate that this experiment did not work, but we're glad to see people trying to save animal populations. And having this thread go viral on twitter definitely helps bring more attention to the issue at hand, so hopefully, other solutions will be attempted and succeed.
Had we not read these tweets, gone to Finland and saw this happening for ourselves, we definitely would have thought this is a dream - some magical creature that we had the luck of coming across. No wonder everyone is comparing these pics to Patronuses from Harry Potter. This truly does look magical.
Thank you for this - the confirmation and the explanation. The only thing that truly worried us about the whole painting the antlers thing is whether it would be hurting the reindeer or not, so knowing that it does not harm them makes this whole thing much better.
