Living at home with your parents can grow progressively more difficult as you grow older and want more independence. Not always, but sometimes. With age can come the building desire for more freedom from your parent's desires or demands, a desire for a true sense of independence. It kind of seems like Redditor u/SundayEvening356 forgot that during the course of her son's life, based on her post on r/AmITheAsshole wondering whether she may have been in the wrong for calling up her son's boss when he stayed at work a few hours late and didn't check in with her to let her know. In the post, this OP states her son is 21 and told her he wanted to move out directly after this incident.
Like, c'mon, mom. It's understandable to be slightly concerned if a loved one doesn't get home for a few hours longer than they said they'd be, but the kid is 21 and appears to have a full-time job. It sounds like there were some car issues at play here, too, so it's not surprising that she thought something was wrong, but calling a boss who she didn't know otherwise after just a few hours is a little bit ridiculous.
