When reading this tweet for the first time when scrolling, we thought it was a joke. Even when we saw that there were pictures attached to the tweet, we thought it was a joke. And then we opened the pictures, saw them up close, and… somehow, we still thought it was a joke. We had to find the original story in the Pensacola News Journal to accept that this was real, and boy, the story did not disappoint.

According to the article, the chase began at about 7:15 a.m. near the intersection of West Jackson and North Coyle streets and ended when a field training PPD officer leapt onto and apprehended the pig at about 8:15 a.m. near the law offices of Ferry & Ferry close to the intersection of North Spring and West La Rua streets. Yup. That happened.

It took five officers, two animal control officers and two code enforcement officers to finally apprehend the pig. "No warrants on the pig, don't know why he's running or where he came from," PPD spokesman Officer Mike Wood said in a text message.

"What we were trying to do is keep him north of Garden Street because if the pig ran out on to Garden Street, it could cause all sorts of problems," Wood told the News Journal. "Garden Street is a busy street, and if he ran out onto Garden, the pig could get hit. So we were trying to keep him north of Garden until Animal Patrol could get there."

As of Tuesday morning, Wood has informed that the pig is being kept in "protective custody." They have called for the owner of the pig to contact them, and while we are very much hoping that the pig gets returned to its owner, we are also laughing. These pictures… goodness, this is something to remember.
