Accidents happen sometimes when we're abroad. You put something down for one second, and then - poof - your brain forgets about it, you leave it there, and then it's gone forever. We practically never manage to get those things back, because we simple don't go back to those places, but luckily for this little girl, someone decided that her awwdorable fluffy cow plushie was worth the effort.
Toy animals are so important to us, especially when we're young. These stuffed animals help kids get through doctor's appointments and other obviously terrifying moments. So, we understand wanting to get the cow back. Still, we're not sure we would have done what this man did. It took a whole heckin' adventure to reunite this girl with its cow, but it happened, and both the story as a whole and its ending are too wholesome for this world.
"Back in August Hattie (youngest daughter) left her favourite cow teddy 'Cowie' in Iceland at a campsite near Vik.
She was really upset, but because we were doing a circuit of the ring road with all the stops booked in we couldn't go back to get him."
"We tried to get him sent to Reykjavik for the end of the trip and when that didn't happen I booked couriers to go and pick him up, but they didn't collect. I couldn't get the campsite to send him either."
"I tried everything for a couple of months but no joy. On Monday, Hattie was upset at bedtime thinking that Cowie was never coming home so I posted about the situation on the Travel Iceland Facebook group."
"I wasn't expecting much to happen but by the morning there were loads of comments - people travelling past Vik, people flying back to the UK. Everyone was willing Cowie home and wanted to see it happen!"
"Óðinn offered to collect from Vik and take to Reykjavik where Halldór collected for the second leg back to London. Updates were posted along the way - Cowie had a proper trip home and made lots of friends. There are some great pics - including Cowie chilling with the crew on the plane home!"
"The final handover happened at a pub in Bloomsbury and Hattie was really happy to wake up to see Cowie and his new puffin friend this morning - three days since my post."
"We often focus on the negative aspects of social media - but it does let you reach out to fantastic people all across the world in seconds who are happy to help you out."
"Thanks to everyone in Travel Iceland and especially Óðinn Yngvason and Halldór Ingvason for bringing Cowie home and getting some great pictures along the way! We'll be going back to Iceland very soon - we'll keep Cowie with us this time!
Richard"
