Hi friends! Last week we took a trip together to an incredible bear sanctuary in Romania, and the week before that we got to visit a national park in Argentina full of giant otters and capybaras! We've also visited some other pretty cool places in this segment, from a real life cat village in Taiwan to the Japanese rabbit island of Okunoshima. Today we're super excited to announce this week's destination: Scotland. That's right, we're traveling to the Outer Hebrides, Atlantic islands off the coast of Scotland.
If you love white tailed eagles, sheep, horses, and beautiful red deer, then you'll love to take in the wildlife of the Outer Hebrides. According to their tourism website, "Much of the wildlife in the Western Isles is unique and protected, meaning that visitors enjoying Scottish island nature breaks here can enjoy pursuits as diverse as spotting minke whale in the sea around the Outer Hebrides and eagle watching in the sky. Our islands are a popular destination for birdwatching. As well as this, the Western Isles are the summer home to two thirds of the elusive British corncrake population from April to September."
One of the interesting kinds of animals that you can find in the Outer Hebrides are Eriskay ponies. According to the Outer Hebrides Tourism Website "By carrying peat and seaweed on their backs, the small and hardy ponies were once crucial to croft work.Comann Each nan Eilean (Eriskay Pony Society) was founded in 1972, and helped bring the breed back from the brink. However, they are still categorised as endangered, with only 300 left in the UK.
Aww, these two sheep dogs look so peaceful as they stare blissfully out at the absolutely gorgeous landscape of the Outer Hebrides. In addition to all of the animals here, the nature is pretty heckin' spectacular. We're talking mountains, ocean, trees, fields, you get the picture by now…
