We absolutely adore our pets, and we would do just about anything for them. Sometimes our pets can get really expensive, whether it's cats jumping over Christmas trees and destroying our property like a-holes, or getting injured and needing very expensive medical treatment. But unfortunately the reality is that there are pets out there who are either stray/abandoned animals, or who have pet owners that do not have the funds to pay for the medical treatment they need. It's a pretty sad reality, but imagine going over to your friends house and seeing that their pet is very seriously ill and they aren't doing anything about it. What would you do?
This is exactly what happened to the original poster of this story, whose friend confronted him and his family and even started screaming when she saw the condition of their pet cat. People from all sorts of different perspectives weighed in, some of whom were veterinarians that shared what they wish people knew about elderly cats and the finances of taking care of them. We've shared before about vets sharing the silliest things people got wrong about their pets, but unfortunately there are also many dangerous misconceptions.
His spine? The cat has to be pretty ill to have his spine showing, but it's hard to visualize exactly how sickly this cat looks, if we had a photo to see then perhaps we would understand the situation more clearly. In any event, a 13-year-old cat is pretty elderly, so he likely has quite a few health problems.
That's very sad that the mom can't afford to take the cat to the vet due to COVID. Perhaps the original poster can take the cat himself, he says he's 18 so perhaps he can get a part time job after school and raise some extra money to support his family, or he can ask for Christmas for money to pay for Pearl to see a vet and get the medical treatment she needs.
