It's totally fair here for Mom to be concerned here that her daughter might not be making the right decision. Probably even better that she is conscientious enough to take a moment to consider whether or not she should be saying anything at all.
Since her daughter asked it's fair that she shares her opinion but she also needs to let her daughter make her own decisions. Better than this parent that gave their adult child unsolicited advice about their appearance.
Pretty rare to see one of these where no one is really in the wrong. Go team.
