Can we just make a pact never to comment or judge another person's appearance? Like, ever? It's one of those things that really burns its way into your brain and festers uncontrollably. When you're a kid or a teenager and someone tells you how you 'should' look it can warp your entire perception of your own appearance, rather drastically too. I'm sure some would disagree but more know exactly what I'm talking about here.
You can maybe look at it from the angle that the parent was clearly trying to help their child and coming from a place within their own experience. The thing is that their experience may have been true once but isn't really isn't the way contemporary/modern workplaces function.
Passing comment does more harm than good here, so the internet has done a great job of putting setting this parent straight.
