Font - How big should my cat's primordial pouch be? Should I get it removed for aesthetic purposes?

Wow, what a crazy question! Imagine seriously considering giving your cat or dog cosmetic surgery, who would even consider that? We can't believe that we have to weigh in on this, but cats don't need any kind of cosmetic surgery, they are cats. Pets should only undergo surgery when it's medically necessary.

Cat - Anna Collins, Company owner (2018-present) When a cat is standing up their primordial pouch hangs down making it look like a saggy tummy. This area is useful in a fight and it helps protect the area and also stretches when they are running. Not all cats have them; males as well as females have them and neutering a cat has no relation to a primordial pouch. Primordial pouch

Mm, this is a good explanation of what a primordial pouch is. Many people think that these pouches are a sign that a cat has a big belly, when in reality is a biological part of the cat's anatomy and shouldn't be worried about, or, must we reiterate, operated on for any sort of cosmetic purpose.

Hair - Luanne Keil L That's just a really dumb question. Take you money you want your cats tummy tuck and go feed some hungry people. Don't waste our time please

Font - All about Cats QO Karen J Gray, Have researched animals of all kinds throughout my life. No, you shouldn't get plastic surgery for a cat! Good grief! Why on earth would you subject a pet to the risks of general anesthesia and the pain of surgery for something only you care about? Not all cats have a pouch, but for cats that do have one, the size of the pouch varies. Whatever size pouch your cat has is what it has - there is no particular size that's more or less desirable.

Rectangle - All about Cats Robyn Keller, Teacher (1983-present) You absolutely should not get it removed! It should not be subjected to an unnecessary, painful surgery for any reason! A primordial pouch stores food, facilitates movement and provides extra protection in case of a fight. It's important!

Font - Suzanne O'Brien My Male cats primordial pouch is huge, but it's part of him, and I wouldn't change it. My eldest one virtually has no pouch. Neither of them are bothered, and neither am I.

Font - C Carolyn Harris, former Triage Staff in Accident and Emergency at Hawkesbury Hospital (1984-1995) Don't talk rubbish. That pouch is what helps cats to land on their feet, to do strange twists in the air as they land and all sort of other things. Leave it well alone. As for 'aesthetic purposes' what on earth are you thinking? Have you had your ears removed for aesthetic purposes? Would you? Then why muck around with a cat's body just for the look of the thing. Perhaps you could have your

Font - Barbara Tope Mathews, studied Medicine and Healthcare at University of Michigan Originally Answered: Why do some cats have hanging guts? Why do some cats have hanging guts? It is not a 'hanging gut', it is a primordial pouch. If you've got more than one cat, you may have noticed how they kick at each other's stomachs when they're fighting. That's just play, but the tactic is the means by which they kill prey. Cats have belly fat, like most animals, to protect their viscera. All domestic c

Handwriting - After cats are spayed, it often looks as if their stomachs (and by extension, their primordial pouches) hang lower. Along with this, their skin flaps appear elongated. This also happens to male cats after neutering, as well as aging female and male cats. The sagging largely is a skin elasticity issue. Cats who lose a lot of weight, be it through disease dieting, still have these flaps, too. The primordial pouch is normal and doesn't merit concern.

Font - Functionally speaking, the primordial pouch serves another practical purpose: It allows the stomach to expand and swell with food. In wild cats, this allows them to consume a large meal while the getting is good. In domestic cats, this also allows them to consume a large meal while the getting is good, but you should be feeding your cat regularly enough that he doesn't need to gorge himself in one sitting. Incidentally, a 1997 study from Cornell University found that about 25 percent of c

Human body - Sheryl Roberts, former Veterinary Technician (1984-2016) So your cat's belly hangs down and swings from side to side as she walks. It's normal. That's the cat's primordial pouch, also known as a belly flap or abdominal flap.

Human body - Sam Karr, former Barn Staff (2018-2020) There is no "normal size" but no you shouldn't have it removed that's one f .cking big incision and for no reason
