Font - So my boyfriend (25M) during the Pandemic went on a deep dive on youtube of fish and takes and set ups and is somewhat obsessed now and wants to get a huge setup for the livingroom of all these tropical fish.

Font - | (26F) have outright banned him doing this for the simple fact i've seen this obsession before from him, it's what led to our pet mini lop rabbit Tootsie, and he doesn't clean out her hutch or litter tray at all and barely plays with her, she was his pet but has honestly ended up becoming mine as I couldn't stand to see her neglected, I know he'll end up doing the same with a fish tank and they'll not be cleaned out properly and that is just downright cruel and I am not open to the idea

Font - He insists that i'm being unfair and that this is different and of course he'd clean them and has ignored me comparing it to Tootsie, I don't want to be unfair to him but I honestly do not see him as a responsible pet owner, should I just see if he'll take care of them and if not give them up? ETA: banning was perhaps the wrong phrasing, I should have said firmly put my foot down. 1 677 191 1, Share Award

Font - dyorknine · 1d Certified Proctologist [26] NTA. People don't realize how hard it really is to take care of fish. Aside from neglecting them, it's also really expensive and he shouldn't throw away money like that on something he won't care about a few weeks from now. G Reply 259 lifewith6cats · 23h Exactly this. Fish and their tanks are a pain to care for. Especially the kind of set up it sounds like he wants. Also sounds like he wants the pricey exotic fish. Not good for beginners. I woul

You can already see he's not doing this with his rabbit. Push back. Keep reminding him about his rabbit. NTA G Reply 1 1.1k +

Font - Lennox120520• 12h Hijacking, Aquarium owner here: Not only is an aquarium extremely regimented, it is incredibly expensive. You need water purification systems, you have maintain precise chemical balances, and nothing about it is instant gratification. That tank will have to sit empty 6 months just to get levels right. Water changes are a blast, 30% every 1-2 weeks, if you're lucky. You can't use traditional cleaning products in whatever room the tanks in. The filled aquarium will weigh h

Font - lifewith6cats · 23h If he can do this to a cuddly bunny, imagine how neglectful he'll be to not so cuddly fish! We rescued 3 goldfish after their owner went to jail and the gf said to flush them. I don't enjoy cleaning their tank and it's a small one with easy to care for goldfish! It's worth it when their little fishy faces light up when they see me go for the food. 6 4 389 ..

Font - Throwaway_fml_T_T• 18h Also fish are intelligent and the perception they have short memories or live short lives is wrong. They are able to recognise people who care for them and form bonds with them. Just because they aren't cuddly and a pet you can't handle doesn't mean they don't feel. They're also extremely hard to look after and costly, especially tropical fish. OPs bf l'd old enough to know that a living creature doesn't deserve to be neglected as a result of one of his passing whim

Font - Kazvicious · 23h Asshole Enthusiast [6] NTA. I have a large ish tank with tropical fish and let me tell you it's an expensive hobby, and one that needs hard work to keep the tank clean. Its really expensive to set up a tank how you want it, it then has to have the water cycled safely before you even get fish (otherwise they can die from ammonia poisoning). After that it takes a while to figure out which fish work best together and fit into your tank. Then there are additional costs for if

Font - Defiant-Ear7182 · 1d NTA, a pet is not a toy and if he's not taking care of it in the long run then he shouldn't get it at all. Tell him that if he proves he can take care of Tootsie for a year than he can get the fish tank... 5 Reply 1 68 + ...
