First things first, it's important to realize that life circumstances can change dramatically, quickly. The phrase 'unforeseen circumstances' doesn't even begin to describe what many people are dealing with. And yet, there is so little empathy for people who look into re- homing their pets. Also, every dog is unique and has his own set of preferences. Not everyone can change their lifestyle to adjust to their dogs' needs. It's just not practical.
There is a terrible negative stigma surrounding the idea of rehoming pets, and if you ask us, it is not entirely justified. At the end of the day, we are all human. Our lives have a habit of changing frequently and we never quite know what to expect. OP highlights how he of rehomed his dog responsibly, ethically, and we are with it. Sometimes, rehoming happens to be the best decision for the animal in question.
Unfortunately, you never quite know what you are getting into with a rescue doggo. It's impossible to know to what a doggo has been through, or how extensive the care they will require will be.
OP, you saw your dog thriving when she experienced a new place and human, and you it made you happy to see her living her best life. There is nothing selfish, despicable, or wrong about it.
