Sometimes, we find ourselves wondering how well our cats remember things - will they remember us if we go on a two-month trip? Do they remember anything from their lives before we rescued them? We're never sure, but then we see certain stories, and we have hope. If you're worried about a two-month trip you'd be surprised that there's a cat who, after 11 years on the streets, was reunited with its owners and remembered them. There's even a story about a blind feral cat who was reunited with its cat brother and recognized it.
And today, we're reading another incredible reunion story between two kittens - tiny and only a few weeks old. They were both rescued on separate occasions, unrelated to one another, then saw each other and recognized one another immediately.
Read the story and see awwdorable pictures of the kittens below.
According to Cole and Marmalade, the kittens - Bumble and Rumble - are two bonded kitten brothers who were reunited in foster care after getting rescued by the non-profit Milo's Sanctuary. The story starts with Bumble, a 3-week-old grey and white kitten. Bumble stumbled onto a woman's porch in southern California one day. He was lucky, because turns out that the woman's neighbor, Andrea Murphy, volunteers at the kitten rescue. Incredibly, Andrea had fostered 19 kittens and one momma cat last year.
Of all the places in the world, Bumble found himself in the best possible one in the hands of someone who knew what to do. He was young enough at the time to still need bottle feeding, and since he had an eye infection, he needed medication as well. "Bumble had a kitten cold, an eye infection, and he was not weaned," Andrea explained.
Of course, one kitten appearing on your porch is already unusual, but strangely, another kitten showed up on the same porch a week later. The second kitten was black and white and was about the same as as Bumble. Thankfully, this one was in good health. He was also brought to Milo's Sanctuary where he was named Rumble.
In the beginning, the rescuers weren't sure if the kittens were from the same litter despite their age and location of discovery being the same. But, the second they met one another, it was obvious that they knew each other. "There were no doubts that they were brothers. When they were reunited, they actually recognized each other and were so happy to be back together," Andrea said.
Immediately, they cozied up to one another. It was as if they had never been apart. Now, in foster care, the brothers stay near each other at all times. If one of the kittens can't see the other, they cry out in distress. Once they do, the other kitten comes running back to offer comfort. They explore together, play together, and generally have a wonderful time with one another.
Since they are so closely bonded, the rescuers decided that it was only right for them to stay together. "These two! They just love each other so much, they're always together. If one gets too far away from the other, they start crying for each other! Luckily, Milo's has decided they will be adopted together!"
Together, they seemed to have the best time over the holidays - getting bewildered by the Christmas tree and sprawling on top of their new human on New Year's Eve. The kittens play together and seem so genuinely happy and are able to get along with other cats as well. "WrestleMania presents Bumble versus Rumble. Not quite sure who won, but it was definitely the cutest wrestling match ever!
Murphy says that Rumble, even though he enjoys the occasional rough and tumble with his brother, has been "the perfect little gentleman and houseguest." she adds: "These two are some of the easiest fosters I've had. Bonus: they are also some of the sweetest and best cuddlers, too!" Soon, the siblings will be ready to find their forever homes. "They're two of the neatest and sweetest cats," Andrea shared.
