When you work a shitty minimum wage job at a place like Papa John's, you should at least get to eat for free. Redditor u/limearitaa wasn't even expecting a free meal from their boss when they came in to Papa John's on their night off. Just the regular discount. When OP's boss told them to get whatever they wanted, OP was touched that the boss was being so generous. That is until their next paycheck arrived. Keep scrolling for the full infuriating story.
“This! He cannot deduct wages without your approval.” said u/mc_louds.
"But then i remembered that's your job." said u/BhutlahBrohan.
“He got a commission off of you such a classic exploit” said another redditor (deleted account).
“Plus, he may have broken another law. Look at the total amount of money you got paid, after he took the money out for the food but before anything else is deducted (taxes, etc.). Divide that by the number of hours you worked on that check. If the result you get is less than the minimum wage in your state, your boss is in trouble.” said u/Throwthrowyourboat72.
“If that money was taken out and taxes were not paid. The IRS would also be interested. Papa Johns is an awful company they'll never get a dime from me again.” said u/ChickenBrad.
“This. OP, you're bending over backward for a guy who apparently thinks you're dumb as a rock. Find a better job.” said u/Adriengriffon.
