A lot of things changed because of the pandemic—especially work life. Covid seems to have made a lot of workers' relationships with their bosses a whole lot weirder. Before the pandemic, if you started feeling feverish at work (especially in a workplace where you're in close contact with others), you would go home to recover and prevent the spread of whatever virus you were carrying. But currently there are some highly irrational bosses out there who seem to think that if you don't test positive for Covid-19 specifically, then whatever other sickness you might have is totally safe and noncontagious. Redditor and daycare worker u/Real_Card7880 tells the insane story about how her manager totally lost the plot after she went home early with a high fever. Keep scrolling.
Redditors made some very good points in the comments.
“Right! It could have been so many things WORSE that Covid. Meningitis! God I hate how the pandemic made people forget that being sick with Anything could be horrible for many other people. Don’t come around my kids sick if your Covid test was negative. Fucking DONT.” said u/DripDryBeauty.
“Even just flu is dangerous in of itself, the most disappointing part of the aftermath of this pandemic IMO is the fact that we're not talking flu more seriously. We could save so many lives by social distancing more when we have flu.” said u/seamsay.
“MY mom would have called her back and told her off for making her that worried over a lie.” said u/bunnyrut.
“And that’s why I can’t give out my mom’s number as an emergency contact. In high school, she cursed my manager out for putting me on the schedule during the school day. My manager called the house and thought it was me (landline days) and was talking disrespectfully and my mom cursed her out then went up there to see what’s poppin.” said u/ImNotYourOpportunity.
“That's why you should give your mum's number.” u/newswimread replied.
“Lmao, right? You got time to stalk and harass your employees so you clearly must not be contributing much back at the business.” said u/Terminator025.
“Exactly! Now they are down ANOTHER person!” said u/Starbuck522.
“I live in Tennessee so I’d have to look into it.” replied OP, “However the town I live in (think BBQ & Elvis) has so much crime I doubt they’d do anything about her reporting that. My husband was wanting to go all in though, he was FURIOUS. Especially about the call to my mom because she was worried sick.”
“It might be worth pursuing. Cops don't like having their time wasted and that's exactly what this lady did.” said u/vital_wheat_gluten.
“If I was one of those cops I would have turned to that lady and said, 'I'm sorry. Did you just say you knew she was home?'” said u/DouchecraftCarrier.
