The OP in this story is a widower with two kids. Our hearts go out to him, truly. Being a single dad raising two kids is incredibly difficult. The dad is also struggling financially. We can relate to this too. However, you have to set a precedent with your kids about respecting other people's belongings. His daughter broke the babysitter's glasses, so naturally she is looking for compensation. The dad thinks that he should only pay for the glasses if the breaking of the glasses was intentional. So he is interviewing the children and the babysitter to get the story straight. This investigation is absurd. The fact of the matter is - the kid broke the glasses. The babysitter is doing a service by watching his children. She didn't break her own glasses. It happened under his roof while she was working for him. The moral judges of Reddit are pretty convinced on this one. But keep reading for yourself to decide who really is the a$$hole.
Um, yes. It is common courtesy to replace broken items if you or your child was responsible for breaking them. When I used to babysit, the 12 year old boy would get so angry that he would throw things. He once took my cell phone and threw it out of the window. You best believe I made his parents buy me a new phone.
