When u/Tigerdragon180 was working for a large firm as a contractor for the IT department, his experience was one that people often have within a giant, bloated corporate behemoth. The managers were unreliable, the expectations were too high, and the company had an odd culture "That tried to sell more work as being a sign of praise rather than pay you to do the more work."
That sounds like something that the owner or CEO thought of one day when they were sitting on the toilet, and all the "Yes Men" surrounding them were just too afraid to tell them that that idea should have been flushed along with the other waste.
"Brilliant!" Mr. Business thought to himself, sitting on the porcelain throne and twirling his glorious twirly mustache. "I'll pay them for their work… with more work! Ha Ha Ha Haa!"
Continuing to sit and think and stink, Mr. Business began humming to himself. Bemused at his apparent genius. "Surely." He thought to himself. "No one has ever thought of that before!"
Mr. Business and many other employers have thought that they could pull off this one. They prattle on their culture, utterly blind to the fact that each and every one of their employees knows precisely what they're doing and hates them for it. But they are too afraid to say anything because they'd like to eat tonight.
In u/Tigerdragon180's case, the employer sounds like they were exactly as described above. u/Tigerdragon180 knew that he needed to get out without looking back. Nothing that the employer said was going to make him stay.

This whole experience sounds strangely similar to the time that a Karen boss refused to take her employee's resignation and left to go shopping instead.
