We have all heard the tale of a cat getting stuck in a tree and needing to be rescued. It's a tale as old as time, but that doesn't mean it's all that common. What would you do if you heard a cat meowing and saw that it was stuck? Would you build a four-story scaffolding platform to save it like we've seen some people do in the past, would you call the firefighters to save the cat, or would you walk by and hope that the cat makes it down on its own?
This couple did not leave things to chance. When Ashley Pennington was out on a walk with her dog and heard meowing coming from somewhere in her surroundings, she decided to help. She looked around, tried to find the source, led her dog back home, and then went out and kept on searching until she found it. Having been rescued by this lovely woman must have been enough for the kitty to choose her as well, and the rest… the rest is wholesomeness.

"I was a little concerned that a cat was in the crawl space, so I went back outside and eventually found a kitten hanging out in a tree," Ashley shared with Love Meow. "He was so small and couldn't get down, so I went and grabbed our ladder."
Carefully, Ashley helped the kitten come down from the tree. She thought that would be it, but the kitten clearly had other plans. He ran up to Ashley, started rubbing up against her legs, and decided to hang out around her house. And when the tabby saw the resident dog, Otis - who loves cats - in the yard, he made a dash right into the house. In that moment, a forever home has been chosen.
"My husband was asleep (at the time) and I knew he wouldn't want another pet inside, so I got on Facebook and walked around the neighborhood to see if anyone was missing him," Ashley said. The orange kitten ran around the kitchen and ended up on Ashley's lap, kneading biscuits.
"My husband finally woke up and I said, 'so we have a problem.' I took him to the garage where the kitten was, and (the kitten) just walked right in like he owned the place." At first, the husband wasn't so sure about the newcomer and even suggested calling a shelter. He didn't think he wanted another pet, and yet…
"About 20 minutes went by and my husband was outside playing with the kitty. 'I'm going to call you Kevin,' he said," Ashley recalled. The kitten won over the husband as quickly as she did Ashley. He crawled into the husband's lap to have a nap as if he was already ready to call this place and this family home.
"The next day I called the shelter and let them know what he looked like, and to call me if anyone had lost him. No one claimed him and the neighbors didn't, either." The kitten was named Kevin, and before anyone knew it, he became a permanent member of the family who saved him.
"He and our dog Otis absolutely love each other and we're so happy to have him around. Even when he's loaded up with energy, destroying curtains and doing Parkour," Ashley shared. "He loves to cuddle and being in the window, and looking outside."
Ever since the rescue, the kitten has blossomed into a purrfect little tabby cat with a huge personality who loves boxes more than anything in life. He is spoiled, happy, and living the dream, and we are so, so happy for him.
