Savannah and Her Dad above Kas, Turkey

Sky - Day 1474 Kaş, Turkey

This is a picture of Savannah in the hills above Kas, Turkey, a seaside village on the Mediterranean coast. Tom talked at length in the AMA about how much he and Savannah loved Turkey, and how could you not with a view like that! He also commented that the country boasts easy access to freshwater (from wells, public fountains, etc.) and that the Turkish people were incredibly hospitable, always willing to invite Tom and Savannah in for a meal.

    Adopting Savannah

Font - MPAW · 7 days ago How did you keep enough dog food? I've been wanting to backpack with my dog who LOVES to hike but am not too sure what the most efficient way to carry dog food! 380 Reply Give Award Share Report Save Follow Theworldwalk OP · 7 days ago · edited 6 days ago Oh yeah...that's a tough one with a backpack! I push a big baby carriage which makes more sense than a backpack for the very extended walking I'm doing. That has enabled me to pick up six pounds of dog food and load up

One of the most interesting tidbits of information in Tom's AMA was his admission that he didn't plan to walk the globe with a canine companion in the first place. Still, after a few months of camping and getting spooked, Tom had to think of his safety. He borrowed an idea from our ancient ancestors– the ones who first domesticated wolves– and found Savannah to give himself some peace of mind. From there, the rest is history.

    Settling Down

Font - andrei_grim7 · 7 days ago Do you worry at all about Savannah having to adapt to the more stationary lifestyle since she has basically been on one long walk her whole life? 1.4k Reply Give Award Share Report Save Follow Theworldwalk OP · 7 days ago I know she's highly adaptable, but I'm still worried about the adjustment. We're walking six to eight hours a day now and she still has energy when we set camp. I'll be going on some long walks when I'm done just for her sake. But also, she's se

Rectangle - The_WacoKid · 7 days ago Which food are you using (if there is one consistent brand?) Very curious on this one. 115 Reply Give Award Share Report Save Follow Theworldwalk OP · 7 days ago It's all over the place, depends on what's available. But I'll usually grab whatever is grain-free.

    Mmmmmmm, Dinner!

Font - blackeyedtiger 7 days ago When you first set off, did you intend on doing the whole thing alone, or were you always planning on adopting a dog somewhere along the way? Did the walk get lonely before that? Are there still points where it's lonely now? You and Savannah make a great team, she's probably seen more of the world than any dog in history. (And she's very adorable.) 15 3 Reply Give Award Share Report Save Follow Theworldwalk OP · 6 days ago I was intending to do it on my own, but
