Cats domesticated themselves, did you know that? No need for help from humans, no need for humans to get involved at all. Sometimes, cats just decide that they're done with outdoor life, that they're ready to go inside and be spoiled by us. Sometimes, it's not humans that choose to adopt cats - it's cats that decide to adopt humans. Or… like in the case of this story, the kitten decided not to adopt a human but to adopt an older sibling - another cat.
As reported by Love Meow, it all started with Celine Crom from Chatons Orphelins Montréal, a cat rescue in Montreal, Canada, noticing a stray cat wandering around outside, looking for scraps of food and shelter. In the hopes of getting the kitten to safety, Celine started leaving food on her porch, and the rest is history.

The temperatures were getting very cold outside, and Celine really wanted to help the cat, so she set outa humane trap for the cats. Later the same day, Celine heard not one but three kittens nibbling on the food around the trap. Amongst them, there was a grey kitten who spotted Celine's house cat through the door and was intrigued enough to approach her. She went all to the front door, placed her paws on the window, and tried to peek inside.
The other two strays quickly fled, but the grey kitten remained. Clearly, this family was chosen. There was a quick meet-and-greet between the kitten and the house cat through the door, and then, suddenly, the kitten was overcome with hunger. "I didn't want to startle her so I didn't move and waited for her to find the trap. She began sniffing around for food," Celine explained.
The kitten sniffed out the food in the trap that was on the porch and was quickly captured. Celine took her in, and that night, the kitten got to sleep inside a warm and comfortable home. With the help of Chatons Orphelins Montréal, the kitten was checked, spayed, and placed in a foster home for socialization as Celine continued to help other neighborhood strays.
"We named her Galoue. She was six months old and hadn't had much human contact. She was scared at first, but deep down, just wanted to be loved," Celine shared. A foster volunteer of the rescue, Geraldine, took Galoue in with open arms. She gave the kitten a comfortable room and spent lots of time with her, letting her know that she was safe. The moment Galoue experienced such loving care, she immediately wanted more.
"She discovered hugs and snuggles and started making friends with Geraldine's cat and other foster kittens. She learned to trust people and how to cat from her feline friends, especially the resident tuxedo." Months passed by, and Galoue grew up into a playful, lovey-dovey cat who really enjoys the company of people. She even goes as far as "supervising" humans on trips to the bathroom, constantly seeking petting and affection.
But, the one creature that she has been smitten with the most is the resident tuxedo cat. "She is in love with the tuxedo and follows him everywhere around the house. They nap together and she looks up to him," Celine said.
Galoue has become Geraldine's shadow and the resident tuxedo's best friend. She is always near her human, ready for some snuggles. It took a year of waiting in foster care, but eventually, Geraldine realized that the sweet kitten had already found her forever home. Galoue has become an inseparable part of the family and was officially adopted into it. "The moment when the resident tuxedo took her under his wing, and they curled up together, we knew it was meant to be."
