Greetings ICanHasers! Today we're presenting you with a Reddit discussion where fellow dog owners share their points of view on whether they consider their doggos their kids or their besties. We're going to be completely honest with you, our love for our pets runs so deep that we can't refer to them as anything but our children. But that doesn't mean that it's the right way or the only way.
It was surprising that many dog owners refrain from referring to themselves as mom and dad. While the reasons vary, they do make sense. Whether you consider yourself a parent or a friend to your doggo, the only thing that matters is how your treat and care for them. Everything else should come in secondhand. We guess the main takeaway from this discussion should be to not judge a book by its cover. You never know someone's reasons for being the way that they are. As you will see in the discussion, people have their reasons for either being a mom/dad or a pal to their pup.
"If I had to wipe your butt after you shit all over yourself ,I'm not just a friend, I'm your Mom now."
Haha! Well, they're not wrong now, are they? Taking care of a puppy/dog/cat/any other pet takes just as much patience, time, and energy as it does of a real baby. And if you ask us, the love and bond between a dog owner and their dog is just as strong as a parent's and baby's.
"I don't correct people who call me her mom but I have never and will never do it myself. It feels weird to me."
And that's okay too! Not everyone wants to be known as the dog's mom/dad. Some describe this special bond as the best friendship ever. And they're not wrong. We're sure many of you call your mommies your best friends.
