'Just quit my job effective today by email': Employer denies new employee leave negotiated during interview process, new employee quits

The employee, Reddit user u/rainbowbadger50, posted this thread to Reddit's r/antiwork subreddit after they learned that the leave for the vacation that they had scheduled months ago, and spent over $2,000 on, wasn't going to be honored.

Agreements that were made during the foundations of a working relationship need to be honored. If you're unable to keep that foundation stable, everything that is built off of it is going to come crumbling down and permanently, irremediably, damage the relationship and trust.

This situation probably shouldn't be too surprising, given that the organization in question is a property management and HOA management company. Being a company that exists, in part, to help manage HOAs is like being Morgoth to the HOA's Sauron.

Readers were supportive and applauded the worker's decision.

“I am very happy for you, particularly for finding a much better paying job AND sticking to your plans! Bravo!” responded Redditor

“Funny, they didn't want to grant you some time off," said ilot_signal. "So now they'll permanently have to replace you. Ope, sucks to suck for these sh*tty employers.”

Commenters were quick to put the employer on blast and condemned their actions. They expressed their distaste at the employer's unwillingness to honor the agreed leave. Some offered suggestions of how they wanted the original poster to reply.
