Nosey Karen Harasses Person With 'Fake Service Dog' At Cafe, Gets Told To Hush Up And Take A Seat

First of all, let's talk about the difference between emotional support animals and service animals. Emotional support animals are NOT considered service animals, and only service animals are protected under the ADA. Service doggos perform essential life-saving services for their humans, and it is literally dangerous for them to be separated from their humans. Emotional support doggos, while being totally valid and adorable, if removed from their humans momentarily, there is no life-threatening danger. 

In this case, we have an original poster who is prone to seizures and therefore, has a service dog. OP took their service dog out for a meal at a local cafe, where they wanted to enjoy a relaxing experience. Unfortunately, a nosey and disrespectful Karen took it upon herself to investigate the validity of said service dog. She harassed OP and their doggo throughout the entirety of their meal until eventually she was told to 'STFU and sit down.' And rightfully so, might we add. Though, OP has a kind heart and believes that they may have come across as an a-hole in this situation. We say, OP you have every right to enjoy a relaxing meal without the interference of rude and nosey Karens who think they know best. End of discussion.

    NOPE. Honey, just because they're are a-holes left and right east and west trying to pass emotional service animals off as service animals, does not mean you should have to suffer. Absolutely not.

    Font - Im not really sure how to start this post so I will just kinda get into the story. I decided to go out for lunch today as I was bored of just sitting in the house doing nothing all day so I went to a pretty nice cafe not too far from mine, I had my service dog with me (she is a seizure alert dog) and I was seated with no issues as she had her vest on.     Font - dog, I asked her not to do this as she isn't supposed to distract a service dog. She responded by asking why I even needed a service dog as she thought they were only for blind people, I explained that she wasn't a guide dog and that she was infact a seizure alert dog.     Font - lady was convinced that this was all the evidence she needed as I had told these dogs sit perfectly still and she began accusing me of faking to need a service dog just so I could bring my pet everywhere. I wasn't really in the mood to go through the whole argument so I told her to stfu and sit down. This just made her madder as I wasnt providing a valid reason and was instead asking her to shut up. And when people ask me why I get upset about all the "emotional support" dogs people are pretending are service animals – this kind of situation is why. Because people with genuine - medical needs get harassed because others are out here bringing untrained dogs into establishments.

The harm people bringing non service dogs into establishments cause never justifies these bozos hassling service dogs. It's a bad argument for our mutual belief that disabled people should not be hassled, even alongside the belief that service dogs should not be faked.
