Laying Out The Back Story For Us

Font - In the final 2 months of our 3 year but quickly dissolving relationship, my ex bought a 2 month old purebred Labrador retriever puppy to the tune of $1200. For the sake of clarity, we both knew our relationship was in the end stages but neither of us were ready to deal the final break. We talked about the dog and I was fine with it, but she would pay for it and everything associated with it was in her name. We also had 3 cats that I adopted from the local APL, they were all in my name and

OP does a nice job here of explaining the actual even that led them to question if they were an asshole, while also providing some nice background about the people involved in this situation. A lot of the time, people posting on AITA will only be looking for validation, so they'll leave a lot of that information out to make themselves look better. The Reddit sleuths almost always catch them though.

    Absolutely Despicable

Font - Two years later, she gets in touch with me and asks me to take in "our dog" for "some time". She was moving in with her boyfriend, who I had since learned she had been seeing before we broke up, and his apartment didn't allow pets. She asked that I take care of "our dog" until they bought a house together. I said no. She asked why, I said I didn't want to. She tried to talk about how I cared for the dog and that he was part of my family too, etc etc. Look, I liked the dog well enough and

This part of the story cut us deep, since OP mentions in the first paragraph how he found out that his ex had been cheating on him. So, not only is she irresponsible with her pets, but she's also disrespectful and selfish in relationships. Looks like this guy dodged a serious bullet.

Sad For The Dog, But Good Riddance Lady

Font - I said no, final answer. She blocked me and I went about my life. A few days ago she unblocked me and unleashed a textual barrage to the effect that I had gotten her dog taken away from her and I owed her the price she paid for him. Apparently she surrendered him to the local APL, believing they would just hold him for her. Anyway, the dog was adopted out very quickly and unsurprisingly. A well mannered purebred dog at the local APL? Few and far between. Why she didn't, you know, board hi

    Cat Sitter Invades Dog Thread

Font - bluemercutio · 5 mo. ago Asshole Enthusiast [9] NTA that was not your dog an not your responsibility. I have a side hustle as a cat-sitter and I have taken in cats for 1 month or more at a time when the owners were travelling. If she had tried harder, she would have found someone to take the dog for less money than a proper kennel. Vote Reply Give Award Share Report Save Follow

    Personal Problems Require Personal Solutions

Font - ThankKinsey 5 mo. ago Asshole Aficionado [12] NTA. There was actually an easy way for her to solve her problem if she thought about it instead of just insisting on handing it over to you. There are people who foster dogs for adoption agencies while adoptions are arranged. She could have easily asked around at adoption agencies offering a cash payment for anyone willing to foster hers temporarily. That would have required using her resources to fix the problem, not yours, so she went with

Someone Might Be In A Bit Of Legal Trouble

Font - critterwalk 5 mo. ago Partassipant [2] NTA, however if the dog came from a breeder it was 1000% in her contract that she's supposed to return the dog to them. She could get sued for this lol Vote Reply Give Award Share Report Save Follow

    Just Bad Decisions All Around

Font - JadeSkysBlueMoons · 5 mo. ago NTA the dog was her responsibility she did so much wrong. Moved in with someone knowing she couldn't bring her pet, didn't get clear information from the shelter about their adoption policy, didn't board her pet at a kennel or with a friend. This Was A Fresh Take

Font - Draggedaround · 5 mo. ago I think you're both assholes. You could have at least picked the dog up and taken to the Humane society or a no kill shelter. And she's an asshole because you should never EVER get a pet if you think one day you might throw it in the garbage. It's not fair the the animal that Literally lives for you. Especially dogs. Shame on you both. Vote Reply Give Award Share Report Save Follow
