Y'all– do you know when there's a thread online that just bothers you all the way down to your core? This was one of those threads for us. Reddit's Am I The Asshole page is usually a good place to go for an easy laugh at someone else's expense, but this one was almost too much to deal with. The poor guy who posted the story is a proud cat owner who got tricked into living with a Labrador puppy after his partner in a previous, already-failing relationship brought the 2-month-old dog home.
Naturally, the dog was a puppy with no prior training, so it terrorized the cats. Naturally, that relationship was already on the fritz and neither person had the guts to say it. So that's all fine, whatever, now it's two years later and the relationship is thankfully over. The man and his cats are living happily ever after, and are making sure to stay far, far away from his ex-girlfriend and her dog. But, here's where the problems begin…
The ex reached back out to this guy and started begging him to take care of her dog! Not only this, but she needs him to watch the dog so she can move in with another man who she was actually cheating on him with all those years ago– can you believe the nerve on this girl? Anyway, we'll let the OP tell you the rest of the story, but as you'll see, a heavy verdict of "you're not the asshole" was returned, and we think Reddit got this one right. The worst part of all of this– nobody even paid the dog tax! But at least the comments are still funny…
OP does a nice job here of explaining the actual even that led them to question if they were an asshole, while also providing some nice background about the people involved in this situation. A lot of the time, people posting on AITA will only be looking for validation, so they'll leave a lot of that information out to make themselves look better. The Reddit sleuths almost always catch them though.
This part of the story cut us deep, since OP mentions in the first paragraph how he found out that his ex had been cheating on him. So, not only is she irresponsible with her pets, but she's also disrespectful and selfish in relationships. Looks like this guy dodged a serious bullet.
