Not every single story has the best beginning. In the world, tragic things can happen - to cats too. Time and time again, we have read stories about kitties tragically losing family members, getting abandoned, getting lost… it happens. But here, if we ever bring a story like this to the forefront, we can assure you that it has a pawsitive ending. These are stories like the one about the blind feral kitten getting reunited with his half-blind brother - lost him then found him again. Or like the story of the kittens who were rescued on two separate occasions then ended up recognizing each other in the shelter and reuniting - fait bringing them together. Or the one that's more like today's story - the one about the kitten who sadly lost her brother then cried until she found another kitten to spend her life with.
Today's story follows a similar plot. According to Love Meow, in North Carolina, an orange tabby was found along with his sister in a homeowner's garage. One of the babies, unfortunately, did not make it, but the other one did. And the tabby who lived has so much personality and a strong desire for family - a family which it ended up finding in the most unexpected way.
The person who found them waited for the mom to come get them, but she never showed up, so they reached out to Sarah Kelly, the founder of Murphy's Law Animal Rescue, in the hopes of getting the kittens the help that they needed. "The kittens seemed a bit premature, and the sister (Clove) was just half the size of her brother (Patrick). They had a huge uphill battle," Sarah said.
Immediately, Sarah started the kittens on round-the-clock intensive care - keeping them warm, hydrated, and helping them eat through tube-feeding. She did her best with them, but despite all of her hard work, Clove sadly lost the fight and didn't make it. Patrick, on the other hand, forged on with everything that he had and managed to get better.
Having lost Clove, Sarah knew that Patrick must feel a bit lonely, so she spent as much time with him as she could, showering him with love. Over the next few days, Patrick opened his eyes and began to waddle around his next nest, exploring.
He was very curious and constantly wanted attention, so Sarah decided that the best thing to do would e to find another kitten his age for him to hang out with - because having a feline companion helps single kittens like Patrick with their development.
Around that same time, Sarah was notified about a tiny kitten who had been abandoned and was in need of TLC. "She was left outside of a local emergency vet in a paper bag. She was found dehydrated, hypothermic, and severely underweight for a 4-week-old, at only 245 grams," Sarah explained.
The kitten, later named Moxie, weighed less than Patrick even though she was one week older than him. "She was simply fluff, skin and bones, and attitude."
Moxie was brought into the rescue and spent her first day in an incubator - warming up and re-regulating her temperature. And before you knew it, she was reinvigorated and back on her feet, demanding attention and service as loudly as she could. "She is a force to be reckoned with, rebellious, strong-willed, and brave. She has been vocal and voraciously passionate about all that she needs and wants, ever since," Sarah recalled.
It had only been a few days, at that point, since Patrick had lost his sister. "She actually looks a lot like his sister. It felt like a gift." Once the two kittens were ready to meet, Moxie took Patrick under her wing without a hint of hesitation. They instantly started following each other around as if they had always known one another.
"It was like she completed a little piece of Patrick's heart! They instantly bonded and have truly helped each other thrive and grow," Sarah said. "Moxie lifted our spirits and Patrick's, too! He's been smitten since he met her." The two new BFFs explored every part of their kitty room together and even befriended other kittens in the house.
"Moxie is a spicy, independent girl who calls the shots, and Patrick is a snuggly, playful goofball. They have such a fun time together and are an adorable pair." Patrick obviously adores Moxie and follows her everywhere she goes. "We think they are kindred spirits. They were meant to be together."
