While @NutterButter claims they were “just singing,” those of us who haven't been living under a rock know that they were fully aware of what they were doing. Oh, they knew.
Twitter users knew, too, and the response (while definitely welcomed by the Nutter Butter social media team) prompted Nutter Butter to go one step further, and issue the following apology.

The two paragraphs feel awfully forced and corny, much like the notes app apologies being put out by cancelled or near-cancelled celebrities these days. And while it's cringey, it's not nearly as cringey as the brands who are trying to ride on Nutter Butter's lusty and lame coattails.

Ultimately, the takeaway here is that brand should have left the humor to Wendy's. Everyone else seems like they're trying too hard, and we're pretty sick of it. Everyone likes a sex pun (right?) but they land a lot better when they're not being tweeted on behalf of a multi-billion dollar corporation.
