Building a relationship is an incredible hard thing to do, which is why it's no surprise that so many marriages end in divorce. Don't get us wrong, we fully believe in the power of love. We also believe in a relationship founded on respect and careful consideration for one's partner (or partner's), most issues are surmountable. Unfortunately, what we're dealing with here is not a relationship founded on respect, or careful consideration for one's partner. What we have here is a Reddit post by an exasperated woman who seems to have found herself and engaged herself to the scummiest of all scumbags in her area. Sound like an overstatement? Stick with us.
OP is a single mom with a 13-year-old daughter, and this daughter is just in love with her cat. However, after the engagement for some reason, this woman's fiancé began thinking that he has a right to boss the young girl around. He even gave her a list of things her and the cat are allowed to do, which is a major red flag for incoming abuser behavior. Of course, the woman was oblivious to all of this, as she was to how much her daughter probably has hated this guy the whole time. So, it wasn't until the cat actually went missing that OP started to question her fiancé's motives. Then, she learned the real truth: that he had left the indoor cat outside to die when no one was home, hoping that everyone would just forget about it. OP did not forget, and wound up blowing up on him as he rightly deserved. But, afterwards, she was left wondering if she did the right thing, and turned to Reddit to see what they thought. We'll let you take a peek at their comments in a second, but what do you think? How would you have reacted in this situation?
If you have a partner who enters your life, and then starts a power struggle with another important member of your family, run for the hills. This is not normal, healthy, relationship behavior. What this man is doing is frankly more than a bit abusive, and the mother should be ashamed of letting him around her daughter for so long.
We see now that she was willing to blow up at this man, but where was all this energy while he was bossing her daughter around? As you'll see in the comments, people were pretty brutal in telling OP she misread this situation. She wasn't wrong for how she reacted, she was wrong for how long she let it go on.
