Daffodil is a grey and white cat that was rescued from a dumpster as a kitten. She grew up during quarantine and only recently started to try to initiate play. She has a brother named Ernest, a big 'old dopey orange and white kitty that seems to be unbothered by anything. Turns out that was the perfect partner she needed, because she gets to experiment on her approach to playtime with zero harsh reactions.

Dogs initiate play with the famous play bow. How do cats initiate play? Well… Stand by, lemme Google it really quick.
Okay, so apparently it's like fighting but you'll be able to tell the difference. Like, they'll still swat at each other, and tackle each other and bite, but if they were actually fighting they would be hissing and their hair would be standing up and it would be way more intense. So basically, the initiate play just by jumping right into it. This lil kitty though tries all kinds of different techniques. She does the classic cat of just trying to jump into it, but she seems unsure about it. The funniest one so far has been her just falling to her back and flailing her hind legs into the air.
She's working hard though and making progress. Ernest is a great playdate and loves her very much. They groom each other and take care of each other, so it's not surprise that Ernest allows her to test out any technique of how to play with him. But he doesn't let her win the game every time. Sometimes he tackles the living daylights out of her (but she's fine) or sometimes he just doesn't wanna play. Still all important lessons for Daffodil because it is also important to know the sign of when not to play along with the signs of win it is appropriate to play.
It's not an easy world out there for a quarantine dumpster cat, but she's doing her best and being an inspiration to cats rescued from dumpsters during quarantine everywhere! Maybe she'll be the first cat to do the puppy play bow? Anything is possible!
