Cats are really resilient and amazing animals. They manage to adapt to some of the worst conditions, survive, and thrive. But that's not the case for every single one of them. Sometimes, things happen that make it so that these incredible independent creatures find themselves in need of a bit of help. Luckily, there are some great humans out there who do help these sick and injured kitties. Whether you're someone who rescued one itty bitty injured black kitten, whether you're someone who rescued a bunch of injured kittens, or whether you're someone who takes care of those kinds of cats, like the people who rescued a cat who has epileptic seizures and will have them for the rest of it's life - you are doing something amazing.
And the people in this story are ones who definitely deserve praise. They not only rescued and adopted a kitten with terrible neurological damage, but they have been doing everything that they can to help this kitten get better and stronger and be happier. We can only thank these people.
"Batman was abandoned by his mother after what appears to be a serious head injury"
"His injury caused neurological damage. He can no longer walk, balance or steady his stance. Has lost vision in left eye and has the worlds worst vertigo. We found him in an alleyway, abandoned."
"He might get better! The vet says with a little care and some neuro supportive meds he might recover!"
"Odey our Presa takes good watch"
"No one gets to Batman without our permission.
This will be his hopefully successful journey
Also to all Imgurians who are kitty savvy. I'm not primarily a cat person, so I'm not fully aware of signs. Particularly when it comes to cats with mental disabilities.
Can anyone tell me how to understand tail behaviours or different forms of communication? His body is mostly completely dysfunctional except his tail. It's hard to tell if he's uncomfortable or happy or hungry or needs to pee!"
"This is just a mini diary of Batman's abilities and hopefully progress.
Abandoned kitty with neurological damage and other struggles."
"He hasn't developed a lot of muscle and doesn't seem to have coordination. Trying to get him to move toward things. He wants to mostly but just topples.
He can but doesn't extend his paws to land on his feet. Is proper wobbly but sometimes finds his balance."
"On the upside he's a decent eater, only requiring a little assistance to be in the right place"
"Tail works"
"Batman seems stronger today! He's significantly more alert!"
"He even tried to start a fight with Odey…"
"He was able to support himself for a few seconds (this happened a few times in the day), I was only supporting his balance"
"Manages to get up his feet….. momentarily. That is a grippy surface…
He had his first drop of CBD… thank you imgurian for this suggestion ?"
"Sorry for delay in upload but here's Batman's latest.
He has definitely improved. His eyes are alert and has better compression of his surroundings!
As per the suggestion of an imgurian, pool noodles for hydrotherapy have been a big help. He still doesn't really move in the water with a little floating belly support. But I managed to cut out a ring big enough for his head and that keeps him from dipping his head in which was a massive problem!"
"Batman's coordination is still mostly non-existent. But he doesn't stop trying. I took him to the local cat hang out where he was inspected by 4 local kitties on this evening. He manages to get to all fours for a brief moment before toppling. Although not much, it's still a massive development for the little guy.
With a little initiation he has begun cleaning himself more thoroughly."
"His development is slow but steady. He's grown in size a lot and has obvious increase in muscle. I'll repost more when we have more developments!!
Many thanks again to everyone who gave suggestions and input"
